What it means
Bigger blocks mean fuller blocks. Sustained rise = mempool pressure.
Bitcoin caps block weight at 4M weight units — the post-SegWit successor to the 1 MB byte limit. Raw byte size sits below 4 MB because witness data is discounted in the weight calculation.
How it’s averaged
Bucket by UTC day, average size_bytes. No smoothing.
date_trunc('day', timestamp) groups every block by day. No interpolation of missing data. No moving average.
Where it comes from
Our own Bitcoin Core node. Six-block confirmation lag.
Per-block rows pre-computed nightly. The lag keeps re-orged tips off the chart — the most recent ~60 minutes of chain activity is never plotted by design.
