How it’s measured
Wall-clock time between epochs, divided by 2,016 blocks.
Individual block.time values are noisy — miners can set them within a wide tolerance. The per-epoch average smooths that noise out.
What to look for
Under 600 s: hash rate ran ahead. Over 600 s: miners left.
Persistent below-target periods mean the next adjustment will raise difficulty. Sustained spikes above target mark hash-rate exits — the 2021 China exodus pushed intervals above 700 s.
Where it comes from
Our own Bitcoin Core node. Six-block confirmation lag.
One row per block in PostgreSQL. The lag keeps re-orged tips off the chart — the most recent ~60 minutes of chain activity is never plotted by design.
